So what do you think about Phoenix Point being Epic?

It would be ten times more when developers have publishers to chose from.

I think so little of it that i have requested a refund from Fig. Since i requested it on Friday (yesterday), i dont imagine i’ll hear back until Tuesday or something… its the first time i’ve ever asked for a refund for a crowd-funded game, so this’ll be interesting.

I have absolutely no intention of ever installing the Epic launcher on my system, and that is not going to change. Hence, my refund request.

I expect this move was made by Gollop as he was running into financial difficulties… i am getting a deja-vu to ā€œDreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridgeā€ which turned into ā€œUFO: Aftermathā€ (i was ALTAR’s forum admin, so i actually remember some of this stuff…lol)… where Gollop’s financial mismanagement drove that game into the ground… now he seems to have taken the opposite route… throwing his original backers (and the only reason for why the game got off the ground in the first place) under the bus in order to secure additional funding… Things like that tends to not go over well with people, but only history will judge

Btw, don’t you think this is better just to wait a year and play on other platform with all DLCs? Or you abandon game completely and for ever? Or I may even suggesting obtaining it from other source but still play it.

I consider this to be such a fundamental breach of trust that i dont want anything to do with it. And i certainly dont want to keep funding it

As for the future, it is dangerous to be too definite in one’s statements, but i dont think so. And i am certainly not going to pirate it…lol. I dont think i have pirated a game in at least 20 years

You don’t seem to understand the level of outrage here about exclusivity (and the changing of release arrangements), a significant percentage of the people doing these refunds won’t be purchasing the game ever (there are plenty of other games developed by companys which will stick to their original crowd funding arrangements) and some are going to far as to add Snapshot Games to the list of people who they will never purchase games from again.

I’ve got dozens of games in my backlog, I funded the game because I enjoy these kind of games and want more of them made, but no longer by Snapshot games (or Gollop). Maybe I’ll pick it up on deep discount from GOG in a few years when it’s out and I’ve narrowed my backlog a bit. Maybe I won’t.

I’ve got my refund for 80 USD coming Monday, after that I guess that’ll be it for me for awhile with this. It was a nice run, the game seemed like it was going to be fun. Maybe I’ll see you around in a few years if you are still around.

I never like when a given word is betrayed. I was expecting a steam key and I learn that I will have to wait for another year after launch to get it.
People that can’t keep their word are never to be trusted. Like one said, I sometimes missed the time you could buy a box with your game in and put it on your computer without being obliged to have an internet connection but we have to live with our time.
So for the first time in my life I will ask a refund and perhaps I’ll look to the game in a few years on steam, in the category less than 5€.
Now I’ll have to wait for Xcom3.
P.S. English is not my native language so sorry for any error.

Just a quickie to let you guys know that the money is back in my bank. So refunds are honoured fast and without any problems what so ever. At least they got this right.

EGS accused of stealing steam data.

You can begrudge them because you paid them money to deliver a product to you on release on a platform you selected. Unless you were privy to information nobody else was, you didn’t know your money was being spent for them to build a user base necessary to market their game to Epic for an exclusive deal.

By supporting this project, we essentially supported Epic and Snapshot working together to do harm to the industry through furthering exclusivity on this platform.

You can also begrudge them because they had every opportunity to bring their financial concerns to their existing base of supporters and financial backers before using us as a means to achieve a quick cash grab (at the potential cost of their brand and the overarching success of the game we paid to have built).

But then they are not really exclusive (from a buying perspective). And while they might be considered exclusive from a distribution standpoint, that is because the developer/publisher CHOSE to not use anything else than steam.
With Epic you are FORCED by the developer/publisher.

I suppose you need to rewrite it, because i don’t see the difference. In both cases developer choose to force you to use Steam or Epic. And SG let you decide what you want use but after some period.

And in this case the developer FORCES you to install Steam to play it’s game. There is no other way, no matter where you bought it.

If SG started selling DVDs with PP (mandatory activation on Epic) or start selling Epic keys through it’s own website or Humble. You would still be required to install Epic Launcher to play the game, even if you got it outside Epic Store. How would it differ from Steam?

As @Yokes said…

In both cases developer choose to force you to use Steam or Epic. ļæ¼ And SG let you decide what you want use but after some period.

SG is giving their clients more choice than a lot of publishers that never make their games available outside Steam.

Except for the fact that the game was supposed to be available on both Steam and GoG.
Also, SG had the option of selling it on any other platform they chose.

Infact, thats how this entire thing started… by SG approaching Epic to put PP on the EGS (as a non-exclusive) … then Epic countered by offering SG alot of money to become exclusive, and SG accepted.

So, i, the customer/consumer originally had 2 choices. GoG or Steam. If SG had also published it on EGS (and not accepted the exclusivity), we would have had 3 choices.
Instead we now only have 1 choice, which for many is not an acceptable choice at all.

I am not an eye surgeon, i cannot cure blindness :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m just curious why people are so upset over this?

Yes, in that case the developer forces you to use one platform. Which is not good. Preferrably i’d like to see every game available on every platform.

BUT:
You were most likely able to choose which store you bought it from.
The developer had the option of selling their game on multiple stores.

With exclusivity, you remove those options.

After days of deliberating with myself, reading and even defending the situation, I’ve finally arived at a conclusion: I don’t hate the Epic Launcher, I already use it for several other games. I don’t hate the game, in fact it was going to be one of those games that I would have played for a long time on my YouTube channel… of of those that could have stuck with me for a long time!

All that is ruined by the bad practice that Snapshot has shown here… I won’t support it, I won’t support a game developer, that thinks so little of it’s backers, that it takes away something that was promised and puts exclusivity on their product.

I’ve opted in for a refund and I’ll be leaving this forum now - I won’t associate with Snapshot games again, not even after the Exclusivity period, and I will encourage everyone to do the same. This is the only way we can stop this from happening again.

Thanks Julian, for ruining what could have been the perfect game…

There are several reasons, and while they differ between people i think these are the most common ones.

  1. The game was promised on Steam & GoG to the backers who made this game possible. The EGS exclusivity changes that. (And no, receiving the game a year after when you were the ones who made it possile in the first place is not acceptable)
  2. Exclusivity. Many/some believe that exclusivity is a bad thing and should not be supported.
  3. EGS. To some, using EGS is not an acceptable option.

Exclusivity to one platform when something else was promised.

Given the rep of Epic Games store, stealing user data, and pretty unscrupulous business tactics…snapshot may have gotten paid upfront, but may find sales way lowered than desired for that year. Given what we are seeing EPIC doing, I can’t imagine I’d risk installing the launcher even long enough to redeem the key.

There @Yokes rightly said that there is no difference…

I think you need a visit to the ophthalmologist(eye doctor).

I went to https://www.totalwar.com, where I wanted to buy the Total War: SHOGUN 2 game and if I want to buy it, I can buy it only through Steam. What does that tell you???
That Steam has a monopol over this game or Steam has exclusive contract for Total War franchise.
