Going back to my initial posts about return fire from testing a few things, it seems the return fire change is simply a bit of mixed up terminology.
It seems Snapshots definition of “Targeted by the attack” means any target that is damaged as part of the attack taking place. I’ve had units still return fire when damaged by secondary effects such as AoE grenade damage that was aimed at someone else.
Would have been nice to have had a bit more clarity on that detail in the patch notes though.
As far as stability goes, I am having zero issues. I have noticed load times are longer switching into tactical combat and the game becomes more unresponsive when loading than it used it, but it always loads at least… not sure about other peoples systems but for me the unresponsiveness on loading into missions sometimes lasts around 15-20 seconds on the following hardware:
Ryzen 3700x.
GTX 1080.
16GB Dual Channel. Effectively clocked at 3600MHz.
Game installed on a HDD rather than my SSD.
The unresponsiveness used to happen sometimes prior to the patch, now it seems to always occur. Though given the slight issues Unity can sometimes have with asset managing and memory usage (Unless they’ve since resolved those issues since I last tinkered with it?), I am not at all surprised it occurs and don’t really consider it a ‘problem’ as I suspect the game is doing a decent amount of disk read/writing making the fact I have the game on my HDD the load bottleneck.
More pointing it out as a observation for others who may mistake it for the game freezing and needing to be closed.
An error occured while loading the level… In other words corrupted savegame. Please for the love of god test your patches beforehand.
The only thng that made me stop playing this game is you yourself… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: More informatively: I can’t load a tactical savegame. Loaded the autosave before it, but every attempt to load the tactical save or do the mission fails. It is a Legend difficulty, defending haven with Scylla. I was able to finish one tactical mission (citadel) before this happened. Now I can’t progress with the campaign anymore.
First mission after patching my guy disables the head on a mindfragger with an overwatch shot and the game goes into an endless loop with the mindfragger just repeating its animation over and over in my guy’s face. Had to Alt-F4 to get out.
I’m having the same problem. Haven defence, and everytime I down the Scylla and the Fraggers appear the game will stay forever in the next enemy turn. Trying to load a quicksave to before it happens gives the “fail to load level” message. Oh well…
Trying to equate specific issues with certain enemy types or seemingly any issue at all to be exactly what you were talking about is a bit of a stretch.
You might as well start claiming that bugs with specific faction missions are exactly your point about the game not loading certain saves made during tactical missions were a reason everyone should not play the game with the new update, or that if you get faction classes and customise them before unlocking the related research it will strip those units of all equipment and corrupt their class specification is exactly the same thing as what you were talking about.
Heck I’ve got a new bug since the new update where if I switch to my other monitor in a tactical mission, sometimes my audio from the game cuts out until the tactical mission is over… that’s exactly your point too right?
I responded directly to the details of your post and the specifics you gave.
You said the problem was purely that saves you made during tactical missions would not load, and that no one should use the update because of it. You then followed up by stating outright it was tied to living weapons.
Now people are reporting seemingly unrelated issues with specific causes, such as issues with mind fraggers glitching the game if their heads are destroyed or tactical missions going iffy with specific enemy in certain conditions you’re insisting that was what you said? Sorry but no.
After installing a patch I cannot start the game. After I click launch the game from Epic store, the game starts but few seconds during starting it suddenly stops. Can somebody help me?
Have you tried verifying your game installation? EGS can be a bit… fragile with how it handles things (See it randomly deleting peoples saves a couple of days ago).
In your EGS library, click on the ‘…’ to the bottom right where Phoenix Point is in your library and then select the ‘Verify’ option to see if perhaps it messed up trying to apply the update for you.
Also as a side note if it insists everything is fine check that the version is lists is definitely ‘1.0.54713’.
Only against gunner Arthrons. All other enemies can be punched with melee. Treat Arthron gunners as units created to counter melee attackers.
Guys with save problems. Maybe backup them and try to start new game? I suppose that changed mechanics could corrupt the saves where some certain occurrence of thing had place. Maybe it is about available alien mutations, or alien base placement and their influence range where it is now messing with mechanics, or maybe some specific mutation cause problem. It looks like something hangs on the alien possible actions (no matter if it is start of the battle, or save during the mission).
Maybe starting new game will help solve those issues. If so then well… You will probably need to forget about old saves.
Answering to myself, started a new game to see if it would help. Got a second hang, again on the enemy turn: no Mindfraggers this time, but after an overwatch shot the game just hangs there. Music playing and the UI animated, so not completely frozen. This in a Nest mission. The only similarity is the use of overwatch.
Weird that some are getting freezes and issues seemingly any mission, whilst others are playing fine.
Definitely not a inherent bug that’s being applied to all tactical combat, but rather has various sources… possibly a case of multiple isolated issues giving the same result?
One at least seems directly tied to mindfraggers and the game not handling them properly with disabled limbs?
I’ve gone through several missions on my existing campaign with no issues, done salvage missions, haven defences and ambushes with no problems but the enemy have been kept to New Jericho units, Arthrons and Chiron’s.
I am actually seeing a significant cut in the number of units like mindfraggers and Triton’s in my missions compared to what I was seeing before the patch (As in I’m not seeing any at all). However I’ve not done any Pandoran Nest/Lair missions.
Tried starting a new game and that works fine as well with and without the Living Weapons DLC toggled on, ran the first few missions and all seems well.
So there is definitely some secondary cause that’s causing some peoples issues, how many people reporting these issues have had them occur in missions outside of Pandoran nest/lairs? As it seems to crop up a few times in people saying they’re having issues with tactical combat glitching.
I had the mindfragger lock up on the first scavenger mission after the patch. Mindfragger head was disabled by an overwatch shot and the game locked repeating the minfraggers animation in a loop until I Alt-F4’d out of the game.
Return Fire - Only enemies who are targeted by an attack can return fire
Not a fan. It really dumbs down the game. You’ve taken potentially tough tactical decisions and turned them into no-brainers. You would’ve been better off just halving the range from 18 tiles to 9, though it was fine as it was. The other two changes at least make sense.
Mind Control -The “Recover Will” ability can no longer be used while simultaneously mind controlling another unit.
Do these changes come with complimentary crayons to eat?
So instead of deciding between taking your priest out of the fight in order to maintain mind control over enemy units or fighting along with them in exchange for a shorter control period it’s now another no-brainer.
