It doesn’t really excuse the lack of proper communication, but I find this piece about the troubles of finding a bug quite fascinanting.

I really hope all these people reporting the problem have at least tried to verify their installation through EGS, because frankly the platform is a sack of [bleep] and already there has been one person in this thread who found they couldn’t even launch the game after the patch and it turned out to be the EGS had cocked up applying the update and had corrupted their installation which verifying then solved.
Please, those experiencing the problem at least rule out if verifying your installation solves your problem, as if it does then the problem was almost certainly nothing Snapshot did with the update, but rather EPIC having a platform that can’t handle routine tasks with any kind of reliance.
At the very least if it’s EGS being crapola it would explain fully why some people are having the problem seemingly every combat, whilst myself and others are having zero problems at all.
After the patch, I had to verify my files multiple times and reboot both EGS and my computer to get the program to even open. However, one I got it working, it’s been flawless (Mac user).
I’m thinking this is an EGS problem.
Edit: well, flawless except for the stuff I expect to still be broken.

So now, after that patch, only one assault can respond with return fire in case he is attached directly?
So it means significant downgrade of the perk. I really don’t like to hear that. So it means my soldiers loose one of rare advantages, they may have in the game, especially if they are not rank level 7?
- Pandorans have high hit points, high armor, high will, stronger weapons, there is number of them, plus keep coming in some mission, plus they have various abilities including mind control and high will and Chiron bombs; so they are stronger in all ways, so I think they also do not need a return fire (or they can have downgraded return fire only, that’s fine, but it should be only applied to Pandorans, not to my soldiers)
- contrary, my soldiers are definitely weaker; there are many complains in various forums/game reviews about difficulty peaks, and overpowered enemies, and Devs now decided to make my soldiers even weaker than they were even before the patch? While return fire could be nicely kept for the Soldiers only as it was till the patch, and removed from Pandorans only?
- I used the return fire perk as a useful tactical advantage, when I had to pay precious XPs for that; it was at least something to somehow weaken Chrions or other strong guys with high HP, and now it is gone, downgraded significantly?
It is bad news for me, really frustrating.
In general, I seriously think it is a bad choice to do any changes to the game mechanics that makes the soldiers weaker than they are now.
I would like to kindly ask Devs, whatever they do, please, do not make our soldiers weaker!
And I would ask to make soldier weaker, but enemies too.
Anything with return fire that is damaged by a attack should initiate return fire providing all other requirements are met.
So if you have 3 assaults with return fire and a close range enemy throws a grenade into the middle of them, all 3 should return fire as they were all damaged (AKA ‘targeted’) by the attack.
If a enemy fires a shotgun with large spread into that same group and hits 2 of your assaults, those 2 should return fire and your 3rd will do nothing.
It’s quite a decent compromise to the previous binary behaviour, especially now that return fire initiates a full attack in response and no more half-attacks.
Installed new, verified files. Helped for a while, but now the problem is back. Loop after Return-Fire.

I think the dev’s have bought new identities and buggered off to some far off country. Well, it was good while it lasted. We will find them when they open a kick-starter for a villa in France.

Have you ever wondered why it is that dev’s always take a vacation right after dropping a patch that comes complete with it’s very own booby trap?

Christmas is the season of excuses. Excuses to eat and drink to much. Excuses to empty your bank account on utter junk that any other time you wouldn’t even look at. And we hide those excuses behind excuses like it’s the most wonderful time of the year and it only comes once a year. Worst of all we deface our homes with daft paper glass and plant life.
It needs to be banned or at least nerfed.
