That’s not really a solution. You’re telling the player to stop playing the game and to start creating the game instead. Paying to create a game… Not a solution, nothing has been solved.
I bought the game on release and to date I’ve only upgraded about 6 units to use 2 classes in dozens of playthroughs xD
I’ve always thought being able to combine 2 classes shouldn’t even be possible, it just leads to too much trouble.
On one hand it is the main reason why we see the player’s Abilities and Weapons being nerfed & changed patch after patch.
Pandorans are stupidly overpowered (Hallelujah to the Panic immunity btw!) to the point where if you take a single step away from Spawn you are dead. I mean, I’ve never played the game in any other difficulty other than Legend but I’ve always felt like multi-class is a bit too much so I opt for individual upgrading everytime. A Max Rank unit should be a beast… If only we had more levels and skills/passives.
On the other hand I’m pretty sure trying to balance multi-class for the player and against the enemy has been one of Snapshot’s biggest headaches with this game xD
I fully agree… and @etermes way to play should be the one. Congrats to him… that would be a real challange!!!
Didn´t discovery that super overpower yet… I wounder what kind of beta testers this game had to allow an exploit like this. The game has an year now, this should be priority to correct.
Powerfull yes, but no game breakers and super overpowers like it is now.
Congratulations for your work @etermes !!!
I really expect devs listen to you and see your videos. They are ilustrative of the overpower.
This game has much potential, but to be a reference, the vanilla version should be a real challange for hero and legendary players, with no overpowers. For that exist community mods and maybe 2nd wave superhero option like it was suggested here.
Keep the good work
First thing we said in the Council testing Polaris pre-release,
“how is this possible? Vidar GL with assault/heavy using LV 5 abilities will require 0 AP” and “using Ready for Action other soldiers around will feed even more ammo to that soldier”
they don’t need beta testers for that, they knew before releasing Polaris/YOE
thank you for your words, do not hold your breath for the next months
I’ve added a question about OP Skills here, for those who are interested: What have you guys got against Cooldowns? | Voters | Phoenix Point
Here I found another “OP” video.
Sorry @etermes I’m cheating on you
I think Scyther by itself is OK - you need to do every single LOTA mission to get it, and once you do game is basically over.
The assault/Infiltrator with VT is stupid, though this is also a base defense mission, which is a bit of a specific case; doesn’t make it fine though.
If Rapid Clearance gave back only the AP spent on the killing blow and Sneak Attack was nerfed somehow…
Perspectives are very subjective, of course.
Dual classing itself is fine. It does not need any changes. It is not the cause of these issues in itself at all.
Small focussed changes are the way to go, to just soften the edges of the most extreme abuses. No sweeping game re-writes or large feature removals should be necessary.
Voland’s suggestion there is excellent. Rapid Clearance could do with a tweak to only refund the AP the killing blow used, that’s a small and simple correction that would make perfect sense and prevent some of these abuses.
Has been discussed here “countless” times.
Guns nerfs (damage Shootgun, Deceptor) have never eliminated problems, but only caused problems for newbies, as they tend to play with basic tactics (move, shoot, take cover).
The only weapons I personally find “OP” are laser PDW, laser mount cannons, and turrets (all basically from the same research).
It has always been the skills that cause problems right from the start. It’s just that the devs don’t seem to want to “touch” them or they just don’t have the courage to do so, I don’t know.
Well, to be fair there have been quite a few balance changes over the past year, most of them in line with reducing damage and getting rid of some combos.
Why haven’t there been more changes? I think mostly because the approach here is measure a 100 times, cut only once (and what they are ‘measuring’ is how to remove the OPedness intruding as little as possible on other players fun), plus there are always more important things to do.
This is just the right approach.
To always take care not to please a small handful of loud voices on a forum and at the same time upset a hundred times as many other players who are not on the forums.
“fun” can be very different depending on the player … I definitely don’t have “fun” with the fantasy super duper skills (incl. exploits), but others do …
Edit:
I just mean: Half of the game is provided with deep tactics and then there is the other side of the medal with super duper arcady “I’m the crab terminator”, which you could probably even play on a mobile phone, since you just have to click around.
It seems so inharmonious, as if the whole thing was done by two completely different teams. Who knows?
If @VOLAND is ok with that I can’t say more, anymore
Let me explain. That part of ‘crab Terminator’, where you just click on things until they die, it might have its public, but AFAIK that is not intended.
However, between the crab Terminator and no skill/combo situationally allowing one-hit kills, there is a lot of ground.
Now, some players come from the RPG spectrum where “power fantasy” experience is expected and appreciated, some players come from the traditional TBS where it is not, and many players are somewhere in between.
I think something like Assault/Infiltrator with VT is broken no matter where you come from: it just feels like cheating (and yet some players like it…)
However, a little ninja power fantasy… Well, perhaps it’s never going to be entirely to your liking if you are coming from the traditional TBS, but it gets rid of the worst part and it’s entirely bearable.
And then with some luck we can get some Second Wave option to make the experience more ‘hardcore’ (like no WP refunds for kills)
I think Phoenix Point 2.0 will be a FPS with VR supoort, imagine that Scyther , full gore, surely will sell a lot
This is the logical next step when one interprets the direction of the DLC’s.
