What a load of crap. We need bosses. Even if you kill the given boss and NEVER SEE IT AGAIN, but if gives you a good experience that you can recall years later, then it helps to bring the game to a new level. Cool, hard to beat bosses, where you have to use your head to beat it is a MUST.
There could be civilians at any map… and certain Pandorans could gobble up them and become bigger.
I like that this UI gives you more info at a glance about certain things
Wow - this thing looks truly awesome
So the idea was for these things to climb out from the ocean and rampage across a continent destroying any haven that gets in their way withouth them being able to put up a fight?
I believe this was the intention yes!! It was said that it would take some special tech & multiple branching missions to take one down. Which would have been great for mission variety…
Imo, if behemoths ever get added it’ll be around the time the “festering skies” dlc gets added as using interceptors to bring one of these bad boys down would make sense to me.
Yes, that was my first thought as well reading the thread but looking at the description on the image it seems that the team will need to drill its way through to outer carpus to get into the Behemoth.
Though this does not exclude the need for multiple missions preceding it like you mentioned… like an interceptor squadron having to escort the drilling team through a screen of Panda interceptors defending the Behemoth
This is a delicate balancing act in the end. If the engagement is multiple step, the encounter gets repetitive (especially with a single type of B) and too long for most players to not feel bogged down by the sequence (as it prevents players from doing things in the meantime to spice it up)
Still a two-step mission sequence might work if the first is rapid and the second is not longer then an average mission. If the second mission is as long as Tier 2 panda bases, I recon that most players will rather let this majestic beasts roam the land and have their multiple to-tier elite fire teams just sitting around watching them stomp out the havens
Ideally, each Behemoth would be unique in a way (even if in name and image only - the layout is randomly generated I guess like all the other maps) to offer a unique feel and it wouldn’t be a problem if there were only max 3-5 of these within a whole game. They would be the very rare spice on the meat of the game and as such offer enough goodies to make the risk and effort of defeating them worth-while without the need to re-balance the whole game again when they come into play
Yeah, Behemoths were part of the original design.
They are so huge that conventional weapons don’t do anything against them. The idea is that you land on them, drill into them and drop neurotoxin down the hole.
The back of it IS the map. I assume it them becomes a “defend the drill for X turns” scenario, then escape before the thing collapses.
Rage Burst with Raven should do it.
