It is not bad idea. I like that. But it is definitely far in the list of things I would implement.
Yes, I already read this in another thread
well I have to say that the new skill point system is having an unexpected effect in my current run.
-trained newbies are very weak for their level. as expected
-alpha team members level off the chartâŚno really they end up swimming in skillpoints well before they reach level 7.
result: massive gap if you happen to replace a soldier.
I did not expect the mission trained troops to get so many pointsâŚdid they slow leveling down?
My experience as well, so far (I havenât finished the game with the DLC yet, donât have that much time to play).
On the other hand, I canât say that the recruits from the stables are doing badly. There are several reasons for this:
-
The alphas swimming in SPs means I donât spend any common pool SPs on them, so there is plenty for the recruits.
-
Once the recruits go on missions, they start earning SPs fast.
-
Play style: I prefer to specialize my soldiers, I hardly ever feel the need to give them more than a few skills.
I think itâs because amount of experience points varies a lot from one mission to another, but they always get the 10SPs.
I havenât made my mind up yet, but Iâm starting to think that it would be better if there were decreasing returns of SPs per mission, but starting at a higher return than now. So for the first 10 missions you get 15SPs for each, from 10 to 15, 10 SP each, and then 5 SPs. That way you would get the max 300 SPs you used to get with the previous system after 13 missions (provided you trained the recruit to lvl7 first), and though you could still theoretically max out the soldier, it would be less of a deal losing a veteran of 30+ missions.
+1, my Idea from above:
About the +10 sp each battle, it allow your soldiers to grow at a good pace once they reach level 7. What you can do to avoid too many loses of valuable soldiers is to always have enough troops (and aircrafts) to have rotations and keep training new ones as the game progress. The +10 sp is given regardless of the contribution to the fight, you can bring a total noob and keep him out of harms way, he will still get that +10 sp. So itâs a plus to bring new troops up to speed.

Yes, but TBH I dislike the micromanagement involved in rotating rookies, and the fact that the veterans have way too many SPs any way you looks at it.
I think the SPs per level should increase to 30 from 20, and like I said in an earlier post that the SPs gained from missions should have diminishing returns (15SPs for first 10 missions, 10 for the next 10, 5 for the next 10⌠Maybe 2 after 30 missions).
@MadSkunky I would not link the number of SPs gained in missions to experience/level as this would prejudice the âtrained recruitsâ. That is, the soldier who got to lvl7 through the TFs would be gaining very few SPs once he starting going on combat missions.
I would prefer that soldiers only have a certain number of SP (also with decreasing amount) from the training facility. Has already been said here âŚ
It is of course only a game, but it is simply not logical that recruits gain combat experience through training, but increasing physical strength seems much more meaningful.

Yes, linked to the level is not ideal, but that was also only an example to show what I mean.
I personally would like it to link direct to the SP, the more a soldier has the less new SP he can additionally gain per Mission. Rookies with 0 SP gain more, level 7 recruits from TCs with 120 SP gain normal, high SP soldiers around 200-300 SP gain less and at least maxed soldiers get nothing.
