I was like “wtf, no supporters in this game, me only against scylla and co” In xcom we had resistance fighters, who could pretty much slaughter enemy.
Definitely do try it. I’m using one Hel Cannon per team with full sniper gear for +accuracy, and the soldier can hit a big target across the map or a smaller target still pretty far away. And the cannon shreds a ton of armor as well, making follow-up assault rifle shots more effective.
I personally like the raid missions rather than the automatic thing in WOTC so I disagree with that it is something that “SHOULD” be changed. Its just your personal taste there. You are still new to the game with a TON of things you have yet to discover… so take your time to play before making suggestions.
It wouldn’t be as much of an issue if the regular missions had any sort of variety. As it stands, I find it very repetitive. X-COM 2 had a nice variety of mission types.
I said in another thread, that feels like the biggest issue (outside of bugs to me)… The entire game needs more variety… More weapons, more armors, more enemy types, more mission types, more skill variety. I’m fine with keeping weapons more along the side grade path, but it’d be nice to see more (and more useful) effects, incendiary, acid that actually works. That would also let the evolution live up to its name, where enemies start growing armor, you use AP, they get better armor or much more nimble, so you use incendiary to get around that, they get insulated, you use lasers that punch through, etc. Maps need more variety, as well. Would also love to see nest/lairs that are built out of collapsed havens in places you haven’t seen and not just underground caves.
it really is repetitive. After 50h of playing it’s boring like hell. Defending havens on extreme the whole time, neutralizing citadells and some simple story missions. Research doesn’t really give you any advances and the whole fraction-war-thing doesn’t make any sense in the storyline.
Earth is under attack and all fractions are fighting each other, without any fraction fighting the enemy.
Also the balancing is really messed up. After 2 days every Mission is on extreme, which makes it nearly impossible to level up new soldiers with missions.
It felt good for the first hours, but when you get into it you realize that theres no real depth in the design.
And well, on top there is a shitload of bugs, and some of them really are gamebreaking.
I haven’t hit that point yet in retail, but I remember in bb5, there came a point where a haven got attacked every 5 seconds. There was one area where it just kept happening, even after killing a nest, so often that I parked one dropship and left it in there area to go save the place. While I know letting havens die is an intended choice we’re supposed to have to make sometimes, the frequency was just insane, and it mean constant interruptions for my one ship flying around to explore. It just felt tedious by then.
It can get rather monotonous, but hopefully they continue to add more to the game and refine it. They the EGS exclusivity deal doubled, if not tripped their budget. I hope they continue to improve the experience, rather than just focus on post-launch content they intend to sell to us.
PP has got a lot going on under the hood and has a lot of potential, but it needs a lot of work still.
I dunno but I am more than 100 hours into the game, 3rd playthrough and doesn’t feel bored at all as I am always exploring new builds, exploring new ways to finish the story missions faster etc. Right now, my only stopper is the latest patch breaking my missions so I am unable to continue playing.
I find that the problem is that after the first 1.5 months in game, research and story missions all tee away and you are left with nothing meaningful to do but save havens or just sit there and wait for time to pass. I typically finish all of the Symes story missions by week 6 so after that, I am left with nothing to do but wait another 2 to 3 weeks for the faction wars to begin and another few weeks for the final faction to come up with something. That period is boring as hell. This is a design flaw that should have been addressed.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, this is why I think Project Phoenix having no tech base of its own is such a problem. If people are reaching a point where there’s nothing to do but grind haven defenses and lair missions for weeks, there clearly needs to be something else for you to be doing.
I mean, okay, if the devs are absolutely determined that Project Phoenix may not have any useful technology of their own, I think that’s a weird/silly decision, but it could maybe work, if we had something else besides R&D to do- but right now, we just don’t, so it’s just repeating a bunch of haven defense missions until you’re finally allowed to finish (when you probably have had the ability to handle the end-game for weeks)
I disagree! Have you lived on planet Earth? The whole Faction war thing totally makes sense in any storyline. It’s probably what we’re best known for, fighting when least ideal to do so because one man’s loss is another man’s gain, and one man’s gain is another man’s loss as many people will continue to firmly believe.
Also I’m pretty sure I saw a notification that said “New Jericho has destroyed a Pandoran Lair” or something like that and I thought “Oh shit really? Cool” and didn’t pay much attention to it. May have misread “repelled an attack” or something as I wasn’t really paying attention at the time and I’m not 100% certain of my memory here.
