How do you win the game

Like many of the posters around here, I am a long time XCOM fan, I’ve loved everyone of the games - including afterlight, apocalypse - well you get the point. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble getting the same connection with phoenix point.

A major part of my issue is that the game just seems to be a random series of events that lead to missions that all look and feel about the same. I don’t feel like I’m making any progress at all.

With that said, how the heck do you win (or at least complete) the game? Do I have to complete all of the objectives above the line on the left hand side of the screen? That doesn’t seem right because optional faction missions are showing up above the line.

Any insight from people who have completed the game would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Jeff

the endings are unlocked once you research a certain tech. Researching the tech also locks out the other endings. The techs are listed here

Thanks - that really helps a lot. If I understand correctly, the goal of the game is to stay alive until you can complete the right research. That is a way different objective than completing certain missions like xcom 2.

It definitely makes sense since that is what the original xcom did, but it’s been a long time since I played the games before xcom 2.

Yes it is totally different, but in fact some required XCOM1&2 steps are research, what’s totally different is the XCOM1&2 system is totally linear. In PP it’s more complex if you consider the option of using factions to beat the aliens. Moreover in PP they choose not make it hand guided, which isn’t an obviously good idea, because it results in having an objective unclear.
