Community Council purpose

I am tired of posting suggestions no one out there gives a shit about. Last few topics here were desparte cry to get an answer from SG, any answer. No one reached to us for a year. Not a single initiative to improve or even start communication with their community. They are very eager to reach for anonymous, one-way feedback, create a poll or something equaly effortless. Anything, but engage.

We’re left alone here. This is us talking to us, and all discussions here are so… meaningless. The only thing that could make any difference, the Community Council, is nothing more but unpaid community testers. This is hilarious, the only people here that actually talk to someone on a SG payroll have NDA that prevents them talking back. Well played SG, well played.

Wow! 61 post in 9 hours!
Is it a new record for this forum?

Maybe, probably. I don’t know! I just realised this place only purpose and the reason of existence is (was?) to fulfil one on FIGs promise: backer forum, and since then it doesn’t matter anymore. There is no one from SG here, and no one gives a shit what we are talking about here no matter how many pages of text we fill. The only staff person who responds here from time to time is @Valygar, a person who is supposed to be a community manager acts as forum moderator. I guess unless you act civil enough (not a total savage) you will not have an opportunity to talk to him either. “Snapshot cares” is like a slap in face.

To be clear, the reason I personally have largely stopped posting about why things are done one way or another (like why a lot of the feedback shared here is not acted on, or not acted on as expected) is not because of the NDA, but because it’s a very ungrateful enterprise.

Almost every time I have tried to share some insight into something I know, what I got back is, at best, endless arguments on why I’m wrong, because the real reason is that the devs are lazy/imbecile/evil/don’t know what they are doing.

‘Admit’ what? That:

Well I did that:

Or maybe I didn’t say:

Oh no, I just said that above, my bad. So perhaps I didn’t say:

Nope, ‘admitted’ that too:

So perhaps I didn’t ‘admit’:

Oh no, I’ve said that already:

So maybe I deliberately hid the fact that:

Hmmm… clearly this didn’t say that:

And I’m sure I didn’t ‘admit’ that:

Oh no, wait:

So I already said that - but maybe I didn’t say:

In fact, the only place where I don’t agree with @Yokes comments and haven’t already said it more than once on this thread is the idea that:

Because I went in with my eyes wide open and never suffered under such illusions.

For me, the CC was a way to get the concerns of both myself and the wider community as directly to the devs as I possibly could and I seized it with both hands. But I never expected this ship to turn around in an instant. I’d already been chipping away on this forum for about a year by then, and it was pretty obvious that while they listened, SG had their vision of an open sandbox where almost anything goes, and while I might be able to eg. convince them that a Sniper Rage Bursting a Scylla to death from the opposite side of the map maybe wasn’t the pinnacle of tactical turn based game design, I wasn’t going to get every change I wanted immediately. It takes time and patience, and an awful lot of reasoned argument - that doesn’t degenerate into personal name-calling just because the other guy doesn’t agree with me (which is one of the reasons I prefer debating the design aspects of this game with the Council, who understand that passionate disagreement doesn’t have to be abusive). And if we’re very very lucky, we manage to get our point across and the devs take a step in what we think is the right direction.

But no, you’re not interested in that. You clearly don’t even want to listen to what I have to say. You just want someone to shout at.

As I said before, if this is what honest and open feedback gets on this forum, I’m not surprised SG doesn’t try to engage with you.

And yet, you are there doing their QA on new features. You like the game so this is fine, I guess. But what you do is meaningless to those who, like me, don’t enjoy the base game. There is no way of getting any feedback from Snapshot games about existing mechanics. Canny is dead (9 bugs set as completed this year, last “under review” suggestion is over year old regardless of votes, the only dev questions addressed are… surprise surprise, yours) and meaningless, this forum is dead and meaningless, all you can do is F10 and hope for bugfix, but nothing else. (Edit: Or you can become CC. Screw community, join the lobby)

I can’t even express how happy I am for you. I think we need to create Community Community Council that actually will work as an interface between Community and Community Council, so we will be able to share somehow our ideas with you guys. Keep up the good work.

Oh, yes. Because they have been so engaged with us since the beggining and stopped last week because I was so ungreatful. There is a rumor, that someone at Snapshot care so much about what we say here that he even thought about creating account here, but fortunately coworkers told him there is no need for such drastical and desperate acts and gave him a raise so he could find a joy somewhere else. True story, the best we have.

Guys please. The topic is about the purpose of CC and it’s a free beta testing group. If you just wanna see some content few weeks ago, you just test it for them.

SG devs act like they care your ideas to soften this fact. Some of them accepted that. Some of them gets angry time to time. But as I said, there is only 6-7 people active at CC anyway even there is 14 but I never saw others react anything or told something for a long time.

Snapshot delivered their biggest DLC as FS. DLC 4 will be less then that and DLC 5 will be much less probably. Development is done. There is no point to be angry to something about the game from now on…

I think Snapshot is very good at pretending they care. :man_shrugging:

Shapshot make a huge PR work before release… Jullian with tons of promises…
No Man’s Sky did the same too… with tons of promises and PR work…

PP and NMS started somehow alike at release. They were both at very bad shape with nothing like they promised. PP got a Epic disaster too. Both games got a backlash. Just PP fans are less then NMS and they got already their Xcoms…

As a result, NMS delivered their promises and became something great in time without many DLC’s but free patches.

PP just became just playable after 1 year and all the DLC’s and even free patches became worse and worse in time. As a result, it’s not like compared the promises but just labels of them…

Poor CC members try to defend them when they just sit someplace and don’t care anything at all. This is evil to use un-paid beta testers against angry player base…

And councils purpose is to play game and ignore bugs using improbability drive.
They wont openly admit that no anim work is … dumbness.

I mean I have new DLC I cant see any anim of it, except to scout folder with VLC?

Julian seems not to play and care even.

Its stuff for big fat consumer lawsuit

In other news, Faxis will exploit Xcom license (who sold it to them?) to make Marvel Superheroes to turn based strategy, like Avengers. I doubt they will have some of our super powers  OR our aliens like end game boss

Yeah I hear that too. But I did not get what will be different rather then a just TBS game or Xcom style.
Will you send different avengers to different battle zones? We will see…

You don’t need a license to make a Xcom game. It’s just a side genre about TBS games, like a special package. So they could do this game without it.

Julian made it good to sell the xcom to fraxis. If fraxis did not do a xcom, Julian would not care to make PP. He just used that resurrected xcom hype to fund PP.

he is just Pr clown, sorry big men

I don’t think Julian had any control over XCOM licence since Apocalypse.

The IP was Microprose’s, which after several sales landed in 2K’s library. Firaxis doesn’t have rights to XCOM, their publisher does. Solomon getting to do a remake is the best thing that could realistically happen to it. Did everyone forget, that back in 2010 THIS is the best one could hope to get?

As to Avenger’s bit: How is making a different game, using a different IP exploiting XCOM IP?

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified turned out to be damn good game btw.!

Ehhhhhhhhh… it could have been worse. I liked the setting.

Edit. I am looking at those back blobs and they remind me of exellent Prey that I am playing now. (speaking using IP without intention of doing the IP). Maybe Bioshock-like XCOM, from Bioshock2 team, wouldn’t be that bad of an idea.

Everyone had TBS expectations (me included) from XCOM title and it affected the reception badly. But I have finished the game, and I was really surprised how much fun I have actually had.

Not sure about influence, but it reminded me the black goo from X-Files series.

I liked idea, but found execution poor.

Ah, IP sidelines in capitalism.

Surely and it was all good, except promises vs reality

Back on topic, since counselors are experienced players, I expect them to be of best aid. And little more solution oriented. Cause, if you are not part of solution, you must be part of …

You still try to be provocative? Are you part of solution?

Hey @Yokes,

@rasvoja is no longer an active part of this community due to repeated violations of behaviour standards.

Oh, waited for some Rasta music reply, and to pin point him to the wall, but this solution probably will save me some nerves.
