Just started a new game this afternoon, customized all five of my starting troops, set my research, lined up a building project in the base, and set out exploring. FIRST MISSION…ambush, High Threat, all Arthrons with machine guns.
A couple more explorations uncovers New Jericho, Synedrion, and Anu (no resource missions), and then BAM, another ambush, High Threat, more machine guns. Then a couple more havens…still no resources, then BAM…ANOTHER AMBUSH, HIGH THREAT, MACHINE GUNS.
UPDATE – 23 locations explored, 14 haven bases found, 1 pp base found, ZERO resource missions, FOUR high threat ambushes. 
UPDATE #2 – plus two crashes to desktop
UPDATE #3 --three crashes to desktop, and only two resource missions. lol
