Yes, and then you can still pull the half empty mag into your inventory.
On top of that, if you have multiple soldiers with the same guns, what you have to do is first take all their mags (from all soldiers) and drop them into storage so they get merged, and only then pull them back into inventory. This is just akward. This is not the same as having ammo box as noting needs to be merged with ammo box. Ammo is just taken from ammo box and loaded first into guns, then into magazines in inventory and you get warning messages if there is not enough ammo. Right now, you have to unload all magazines into storage first, to even understand how many full magazines you actually can have.
Ammo management is small at one exception, backpack management and rage burst management.
Just remove it or simplify it won’t help the game.
That’s just a fix to do with current system, and if dev haven’t done it, it’s probably more because they gave it a low priority order.

Nothing is removed, magazines are still there, what you manage is the amount of magazines you want to carry not if they are half full or not. There is nothing about simplification here, the point is to make ammo merge illustrative. Do you understand how current system works? And devs did patch this already as in BB5 magazines in global storage where not merged from the start.
