Problems with high elevation cover

Howdy, first off congratulations on making a great, very enjoyable game. I’m having a lot of fun and ultimately that’s what matters in a game.

I have run into an issue using cover while up high though. Now naturally I don’t expect to be able to fire down at an enemy directly below me, but I’ve noticed that soldiers have issues reliably targeting enemies even several tiles away while hiding behind half-cover on a balcony somewhere. It’s become frustrating enough that I honestly don’t even look for high cover anymore, when in the real world high cover is a strategically advantageous position.

If working as intended then perhaps just a nuance of the game I disagree with and not a bug at all, but if a bug then hopefully this post raises awareness.

Have you watched RetCon Raiders backerbuild 5 playthrough ? - the issue was always present. At multiple occasions he tried aiming down at enemies pretty far away - but the high cover was always in the way. And the soldier just doesn’t rise the body to shoot over the obstacle - as opposed to shooting around walls - like the first tutorial makes you do … that seems intentional behaviour which is unfortunate

Haven’t watched any of the BB vids tbh, coming in straight out of a Long War 2 playthrough. The cover system definitely seems… clunky. I just had the same thing happen, once more in low cover while high up- soldier simply tried to shoot through the cover rather than rise up and shoot. That seems more like a bug than a feature, unless there’s special research to unlock standing up while shooting from low cover?

Unfortunately, the science behind that was lost shortly after the first Mist arrived and has never been replicated

Yeah, I agree that it seems odd how you can’t target enemies that are below (not right below) a soldier on higher ground. It’s counter intuitive too.

Considering all the DLC they are planning… they ought to man up, and add in a “leaning over ledge” shooting position. That, combined with free aim STARTING FROM out of cover aiming positions, will solve all these issues.
