Impressions about Festering Skies

Sure, if you like dll injection and memory hacking to intercept API calls. It is house of cards that will fall (and falls) every, even smallest release. Been there, done that. I’ll pass, at least till the game lives and is patched once a while. It is pointless to build a reliable memory map right now.

The little mod I done for myself still works after months. So patches are not so big deal if you wanna experience some mods. And the code moders made it without injection too.

Without mod loader? How?

You got a mod loader but you don’t inject anything manually. Old times, you should do it manually. So at a new patch you just press setup and done.

So it still dll injection, and hoping that mod injection author will update memory maps every release to keep abstraction layer up to date. I’ll pass.

You clearly care about the game and made a lot of effort to influence its direction. I’m just thinking how much more information Snapshot has access to - remember they sent out an email survey about difficulty? So when they say things about casual players or powerful combos, maybe there is a good reason for that. Maybe in-depth interceptor game would’ve been too much for the majority of the player base? Ditto base building. I don’t know, but it’s possible.

Ok, you won’t let me sleep :).
You know the game. There are issues about balance. There are big and small ones. Because the OP skill problems even without second class, CC became to dismantle point months ago. Then SG wanted a full report about skills to balance them including meta changing, stat balancing, skill swapping between classes and… they told us that they will look to it and do whatever they can. CC members worked on all skills one by one including cybernetics/mutations. I can say that CC created a dream report. If PP would be modable and someone made a mod from that report, no TBS fan would look to the default PP anymore…

Of course there were crazy nerfs for ultra OP skills like WC… anyway, we delivered the report and start to wait. They told us they will start to implement some of them with the Behemoth patch as they see fit. OK again, their game, their choices… and we saw the result. 3 skill changed and nothing like we reported. You know that SG already change few skills already at every big patch… So nothing changed.

I was the one mostly who asks the harsh questions and I asked why… why is this so few and not as we suggested. Why? The answer was directly; “because casual players would not handle the game if we made them as you want”… not word to word but it was the idea. CC gets angry, even the most royal ones. I just left the special discord CC channel when I get exactly how SG does things.

The result is,

  • PP will have all those OP things because they don’t want to create any problem to casuals but as steam says, casuals or not, most people stop to play at first month.
  • AI won’t be fixed.
  • There won’t be mod support.
  • If they flagged something fixed even it’s clearly still broken, won’t be touched again. Fire, viral, stun…

Another problem is bugs for years. CC members reported same bugs 100s time with save files and video captures but ALL of them ignored or semi-fixed because there is a priority among them… but most of them did not get their priority even they are bad and reported for months.

SG stuff only talks with us if there is a big game breaking problem or CC is very angry on something. We only get a one meeting as I asked it with a bit push and got mostly sad answers.

SG never talked about design choices with us. Why did they do something? Still nobody knows… We never know what they got in their mind.

I was in at FS development. SG probably did not want to hear much things about design so they hided all the details about FS until the first test build was ready about 1.5 month before release. They say they have alpha testers and Q/A team but I just don’t buy it as all the versions got huge problems when we have them, at first weeks unplayable state even. So we were testers. We talked about problems and content ideas but FS already designed and coded at that point. We were there to show the bugs and a bit balance, not more. Other CC members could think otherwise, but this is what I experienced. And FS was just working at the final patch, few days before release. There was no time to play the whole game for overall possible bugs or balance issues. Nobody cared how the game will be with this DLC as I see.

Nothing more to add… this is what happened.

Not even then. Very few user proposed things get included, by random criteria (speaking of official tool to propose, been there long long time)

And these speaks best:

Less then 1% Steam players beat game at hard
below 0.5% at legendary

I don’t think Steam stats prove anything. These numbers are biased and can’t really tell how much biased they are.

How much these stats reflect reality if we don’t know:

  • how many players just redeemed the Steam key,
  • how many players interested in Hard and Legendary challenge delayed purchase because of Epic deal,
  • and how many players interested in Hard and Legendary challenge didn’t care about Steam release at all and play since the EGS release.

Steam numbers no longer reflect statistical data as they don’t take into account the impact of game being on a market for a whole year prior to Steam release.

People tend to overvalue Epic deal rage. Gross of people publicly disgusted in the deal wasn’t even interested in game and didn’t buy it anyway; they have joined the rage train because cancel culture gives the (false) feeling of control.

This is the problem we all have. We have some vision of the game and all these visions differ. But they have common part… Feeling that some feature in the game doesn’t work. It is what most of us agree on. We just differ what would be correct solution.

This is false claim. You don’t have any way of knowing what issues were brought and presented by community council. And you don’t know how many of them were addressed and how many were ignored. I won’t tell you exactly how it looks, but Drages frustration illustrates that quite accurately.

And one of the arguments of Drages about what developers think of implementing changes: “that calsuals will be unhappy with the change” clearly states that game is for casuals. That closes whole discussion about if Phoenix Point is for casuals or not. Sorry that you have to accept this “claim”, with such not “provable” argument, but it is how it is.

I wouldn’t be so sure about it. :stuck_out_tongue: If their intention was to make a game for casuals: they have failed, badly. :stuck_out_tongue: Game is so unintuitive, newbie unfriendly and unwinnable unless you gain experience with it that I would say it is more like: “let us not piss off casuals even more.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I think this hits the nail most precisely

They prove how many archive something. OK add x3 by people who just, as you say activate key.

Steam release has been there for over a year

I was outraged, but yet have (had) Epic account solely for PP. Its badly done store struggling for attention.

Please, no more such deals, ask for another KS, if its the money

And it still doesn’t reflect reality and fact that those who were interested in the game (and most likely hardcore players interested in new JG game and, we can only assume, in tactical challenge) mostly already bought it on EGS.

Oh, really? Steam release was in December 2020 so just half year, not “over a year”. No wonder you got it all wrong.

I am speaking of Steam purchases, as Epic has no archievements so we cant really know whats going on, unless team has access to our playing info.

Phew, I am playing game so long  OK, so just in 6 months I am amongst 0.5% steam players to beat Legendary. But yes I was old Epic wolf, forced there and its only game in life I have paid TWICE + 3 DLCs there and 2DLCs here.

So I support you all along, but improve.

My points are not really archievements but that most new players lose interest because of long first campaign

  • Shorter rookie campaign
  • More weapons, more enemies, improved evolution and AI
  • Let freedom be freedom: less fixation to bases, radars and nests discovered by radars. Why they could not be found like any POI?
  • More rewards and growth per action like Civ6, not just random and fixed per mission
(e.g. grandaier is a soldier that throws a lot of granaddes and improves, not just SP bought skill +2 throw)

And its a great game already

Yes, but you can’t compare stats if those who wished to play on Hard and Legendary difficulties already did it on EGS and had no reason to buy and play the Steam version. And we don’t know the numbers, but I assume most didn’t care about Epic deal and just bought it on release in 2019.

These Steam statistics are thinned by many reasons related to fact, that this is not a new game, just re-released on other platforms. It is just wrong to assume equal spread right now.

They would be far more relevant if there was no EGS, but hey that is teams fault.

But it also shows things since YOE and yes, I played hard and legendary again on Steam, beause I had to, there is no way to transfer saves between shops.

But fact is Steam is and will be major release and only one with stats.

You can copy them manually, the save files are compatible.

This is not a fact, only your own interpretation, for me major release was as it comes out on Epic

It can also be that these stats are consumed by other things.
I can only speak for myself personally … In total I had 3 playthroughs (vet, hero, legend) and each time with more self restrictions. TO THE END I only played on Veteran, because I already knew the game in the other playthroughs and was so overpowered (even with self restrictions) that I always broke off in the end phase. If I go through PP again, it won’t be any different.

Ah, hidden deep in secret folders. I wish steam and epic install games to program files.

as you say, but for the world my interpretation of appearance on more famous store with more reviews and in polished edition, is a major event. Epic exclusivity was forced deal on users. I per se, abandoned Epic as soon as I got Steam.
