Headshot - BB5 Feedback

Exactly. There would be tons of threads on “my whole squad was wiped in one turn due to headshots”

Not sure what the problem is. Your soldiers are suppose to die, sometimes, or even in large quantities when you get a really bad ambush or screwup. You can make them incapacitated instead of being dead, as it was in earlier builds.

When was the last time that your soldier got hit in a head? I had exactly 3 cases of this, 1 against mercenaries and 2 against sniper tritons. Even at current balance level it’s really rare. Your soldiers have armor too, unlike most of the pandorans.

Your soldiers have 200+ HP, they are more on a tankier side compared to everyone else. In order for them to die from single headshot, or get incapacitated, that have to be a sniper rifle and they should have no armor. When exactly does that happen?

But not from one shot. If it would be easier to replace them, then why not. But it doesn’t work like that.

It should be easier to replace them, at the moment they’re too scarce/expensive, and become so powerful that you can’t afford for any of them to die. - I’d prefer the opposite situation.

I would be fine with the disabled head being an insta-kill!! or at the very least making them incapacitated in some way… As I believe the idea of a person being fully functional after a disabled head to be a bit silly. I mean Phoenix Point has already gone for more of a simulation approach with it’s mechanics and a person functioning without a head is well, I’d say the opposite of simulation… this could also bring about new mechanics with the planned (at least I think this is still planned) Psychological damage system in the strategy layer. If a soldier in incapacitated due to a disabled head shot during a battle, they could then either require Cybernetic Implants (New Jericho), a Mutated head (Disciples) or well… (I’m drawing a blank on Synedrion’s answer for this would be) to begin functioning again.

At the moment, I usually put most of my soldiers in the Sniper head gear for the accuracy bonus they get. There just isn’t enough penalty for a disabled head to warrant say a Golem helmet over a sniper helm. The accuracy you get between the two is just to great of a difference for a couple points of armor… but I feel that if an insta-incapacitate for a disabled head followed by some intense medical trauma for recovery would be a worth-while consideration for that extra armored head gear.

Also this ^^
Phoenix point in the state of BB5 is very much more on the side of the newer Firaxicoms when it comes to soldiers and their value. As long as this shifts a little more towards the classic Xcom and it’s recruitment pool I feel as though the Disabled head kill shot (/ incapacitate) would be a worth while implementation.

I’m not sure how would that translate to the lore, situation in which is society and overall state of humanity:

  • Phoenix Project is supposed to have top class operatives, so doesn’t recruit anyone,
  • Every haven would rather not give up on any citizen at least not for low price,
  • those who survived I think would prefer to stick to their own faction or place they are accustomed and rather not so eager to join some ridiculed and slandered organization which was supposed to be closed over 20 years before the events of the game

Yes but this organization is clearly the only one that makes all the difference gameplay wise. Who else is attacking nests and saves 99.9% of havens that they can reach before defense fails? Which else organization has members with 500+ enemy kill count and barely any loses, if any at all, for the whole time of their operation.

We actually don’t know what is happening between factions and what these factions do to combat pandoravirus. In some event there was info about Texiarch Nergal battling Pandorans in the name of Exalted.

And even in recruitment research description was something that PP doesn’t take anyone to join their ranks.

In the lore for New Jericho was text that they have special squads hunting aliens. So I suppose they don’t need to search for any other organization to ‘feel the fun’ of putting bullets in monsters.

If original designs are still being followed, factons and pandorans should persue their own agendas and objectives. At least in the finished game.

World maps has been looking much less dynamic then I wished it would, whenever it ended up being less systemic, or certain systems aren’t in place just yet remains to be seen.

Speaking personally the lore is of zero interest to me, especially if it comes at the cost of gameplay, however considering the topic from a lore perspective for a moment:

If Phoenix Project had an excess of operatives, I could understand them being picky over who they recruit, but they don’t, they start with 5, and they can potentially have less. - It might be that those operatives have lower quality, but there’s point where you’d just take anyone you can get.

I would hope, in a simulation, that every haven would behave individually, in part based on their relationship with Phoenix Point, in part based on their own ideals and philosophies. Individual havens especially should have variation in how many people want to join Phoenix Point, havens that are closer to the mist, should have scores of people wanting to get out.

Regardless of general feeling within a given haven, there would be individuals who think differently to that stereotypical norm and are either unhappy with the views of that haven, therefore taking any opportunity to leave, or who have the foresight to see or remember Phoenix Point as something more than the common viewpoint.

Either way, I’d expect more than 1 person in 10,000 to want to join. 5 people in 10,000 per haven would hardly be a large percentage, and sufficient to allow replacement of troops.

This is the problem with lore, you can use it to argue for or against anything you like…

That makes sense.

I wonder where are we right now. I remember the first video demo when we saw geoscape and factions fighting for control.
And here is my problem. We are the chosen ones, we can save the world, we can in a group of 6, clear the entire lair of aliens…
And still, I can’t create additional base on my own. Seriously, All three factions got 6+ bases on my continent, and I HAD TO fly with my only Manticore, across NA (I started somewhere in Brazil), then Arctic, Scandinavia just to find second base in Berlin. Nice… six men, one Manticore, a lot of tears. Of course other factions were flying around in their ships like nothing happen. And IF I found a base I have to repair it and build new aircraft.
IMHO if you don’t want to allow us to build bases but rather reclaim them, at least please provide an aircraft in the new base and/or provide an automated transport for soldiers between bases (let it keep them ‘in travel’ for a day or two, but IF we share the storage across the globe, why I have to use my limited amount of crafts just to transport troops?)

We are only ahead of others (and can save the world) because of research we will have. In terms of military power I think that factions also can do that, but they just don’t focus on that or we just don’t see it (such cases are not programmed but generally according to lore from Briefing #3 happen all over the world)

I assume establishing an underground base with all needed resources or a heaven for thousands of people in not a trick you perform over, let say, a month. You (and factions) need to use all that is remaining there in the world.

I hope that number of bases will increase. In BB4 there were always 8 (with your starting Point) bases somewhere. Here I see only 6 and packed more together on maybe one or two continents. Maybe Snapshot deliberately cut their number to prevent us from knowing the lore. Maybe those 5 bases are just a little peak for what will come, and next bases have their own events already programmed and waiting. That is why engine doesn’t generate more bases.

I suppose that we will find more Manticores, just not in every base that will be there.

I vote up for this! And I hope, according to Kevin responces, there won’t be shared storage and manufacturing across the globe.

Hopefully, because if we are talking about OWN research projects, right now PP is the not the sharpest tool in the box.
