Equipment should not be tied to Will Points

So the eseence is for medikit charge spending WP - for “ordinary thing” not an rocket jump
Same as for e.g. entering/exit vehicle.

Problem is that “WPs being affected by equipment usage specifically” could be understood as “I dont want mi WP points taken off for rocket jump or special shoot” (which is equipment use too).

OK, that makes far more sense.

Sounds interesting in theory, nightmarish in practice. Assuming we get to play with sizeable rosters and not a dozen operatives that rotate most of the time, you’d have to keep track of the progression of individual skills for individual soldiers, and would have to make sacrifices in the name of a micro management that’s likely to reduce the fun instead of increase it.

It’s one thing to have to reason in terms of “i have to take Sgt. Mc Redshirt out because he’s 10xp away from levelling”, now you’d have to think “I have to take him out and force myself to have him run 2 overwatches even if it’s a questionable tactical decision because I need THAT skill”.

It’s not an unsolvable problem, but I don’t think it’s worth it.

True, it would need some kind of pool of skills where you will be indicated in progress towards certain or so. To be honest, I was fine and dandy with TFD/XCom EU mechanics whereby soldiers would simply have more AP, throw, stamina to carry etc. over time and by kills.

I would “specialize” them by choice of weapons, ammo and armor.

Since it seems here we don’t start with rookies but with kind-of-specialists already, they could just progress in their own area similarly.

The problem with Enemy Within Classes is again that you will tend to have just rambo squads in time. It was, as mentioned, balanced by small squads and enemy not freely moving (until long war heheh).

We ll see what team has come up with.

I don’t think Willpower should be attached to equipment use - especially a jetpack. Just give the jetpack limited fuel instead and let us players either use it up all too quickly and get flummoxed or save the last bit of it just in case and it turns out we never need it. Willpower only makes sense when its tied to the soldier himself, affecting his own personal abilities. I understand that some on here can post-rationalise the current setup but I personally disagree with it.

As the OP of this thread, I would like to remind people that before this thread slid off on a tangent about whether WPs should exist at all and the particulars of what the system should look like…

This was originally a thread arguing that equipment usage should be limited purely by equipment charges, and that the WP system should be balanced with this in mind.

I think the things should work like with the pistol in the current build, you can use a item as long as you have charges, in this case bullets, but if your soldier knows a special ability linked to this item, like the gunslinger for the sniper, the he needs to use willpoints.

In this sense when leveling soldiers the could learn those abilitys.

In the old bulid, the last year build not bb1, the sniper was the only one who was able to target specific body parts, you can take this ability being linked to the sniper rifle, so each kind of weapon has its own abilitys that your soldiers can learn an use only if they equip the proper item.

Then items should use charges and abilitys uses willpoints.
