Yeah, was about to bring them up as well. I almost mentioned the map size VS bullet energy, as well. Our rifles, for example, are easily lethal across maps this size

Those very early screenshots/videos were from the prototype. In that version, we were still using a model where every shot was 100% guaranteed to hit. The damage reduction over distance was to balance that. The closer you were, the more damage you would do.

Now that we’re using a chance to hit/miss system, damage drop-off is redundant. As mentioned by @Vathar - if you’re further away, you have less chance to hit or likely to hit with fewer bullets.
