What is the Phoenix Project's "gimmick?"

historian is a subset of scientist, and of scholar

Well then I have different definition of scientist in mind.

and that definition is?

Someone sitting in a lab and thinking of something new. Making new discoveries. Not burried in the past but inventing something

they aren’t mutually exclusive. Numerous new discoveries are made about the past all the time. Plus scientists build on the past knowledge created by other scientists.

they don’t always sit in a lab either. It’s just easier to eliminate variables in a lab.

Phoenix Operations could be best described as The pen and paper rpg campaigns from “Call of Cthulhu.” Mr. Stroud confirmed it himself in the discord a few days ago that he used to gm that game. If anything I hope we can get more interest from that community as it’s old and experienced and could provide a different perspective in mapping out this “thing” outside of our own lovely echo chamber.

Surely the aesthetic, to begin with, of the Phoenix Project personnel would be para military as those would be the type of stores they would have access to. Different bases in different parts of the world would possibly have their own look based on the equipment and uniforms of the country they were based in. In various modern, post 1900, CoC adventures it was civilian equipment backed up by military support that rpg characters would use. The classic Lovecraft story The Shadow Over Innsmouth started with a civilian protaganist but was finished by the forces of the US Government. I suppose the question is how prepared and equipt were the creators of the Project in the game. What were the bases stocked with?
