What can we expect in Backer Build 2?

I remember earlier comment about PP not actually manufacturing stuff like in X-Com but customizing it, repairing it.

My understanding is that the player has to scavenge a Vehicle then repair/maintain/customize it, which makes it rare and precious. And it should take place away from your soldier during deployment, so not only you need a big enough transporter [scavenged, again], but you will play with less than “maximum” number of soldiers for fielding the vehicle.

But of course I don’t know if there are changes/other drawbacks too.

Aren’t New Jericho, Synedrion and Disciples of Anu factions you can ally with? I think I’ve also read that you get recruits from them. This would mean you’ll get playable units from various factions.

It’s hard not to draw a parallel with WotC factions and the extra soldiers you can get for them, which brings a mild concern I have.

While I liked the skirmisher, reaper and templar, they tended to outperform traditional class and steal regular XCOM operatives’ thunder. I hope faction soldiers in PP will be a nice addition, not a game defining one.

Yes, the bubbles displaying damage/status sometimes are difficult to read or disappear too fast. But in earlier discussions there was an idea to add some kind of collapsible “message box” with activity log, similar to the one in Baldur’s Gate 2 or Fallout 2.
It could read:

  • John Doe attacks Crabman with Assault Rifle for 8 damage
  • Crabman is bleeding
  • Crabman has Pincer Arm disabled
    etc.

Yes, such a message box would be nice, although unfortunately it looks like developers these days don’t like them.

Thanks for the information, that’s very interesting. I had not considered the soldier count.

Could we have a scenario where a giant monster does not show up? It is really annoying.

That’s the point

Well, you stated that the first backers should have more influence as to what goes into the games and what not. I was wondering if I could see what kind of influences or ideas where thought up by fans (if such a thing exist)

Developers said something like that? Maybe it is about highest tier orders of fig campaign. I don’t know. But nevertheless this whole forum is about ideas. Some devs read posts and maybe they add things that were not planned earlier. They are not deaf to our voice. Maybe there is even a list of wishes. But they have their own plan and they don’t share it, so it is hard to say what they are up to. I think that some ideas were incorporated in the development process. Like directional overwatch someone asked and Julian Gollop said it is possible to do something like that and that he had something similar in mind. Or like inclusion of AI to the Synedrion faction. But there is no official list of such requests.

PS. I’m not from the developers team.

As @Yokes has already mentioned - we do read and hear the feedback, and if we think something is a valid concern, we certainly look into it. However, we don’t want to give the impression that we’re looking to design by a crowdsourced committee. There is a development plan, and many fan/backer suggested ideas just don’t work with what we already have lined up. Some of those suggestions are also things we’ve had planned for well over a year too.

I thought the point was to test the program?

Only in a very small way. It’s too early to worry about bugs and things which don’t work as intended. Of course, we want to be made aware of any completely game breaking bugs so that we can fix them and people are able to play. The main point of the Backer Build at this stage is just to let people into the game and see what it’s going to be like.

The scenarios played without the Queen at the moment become very very easy (especially in Backer Build 2 with the Armadillo). Of course, future iterations will have more options and variety.

That makes sense. it is a fun game, even in its current condition. I just have to quit when the Queen shows up because I do not know the trick, and she kills all my guys every time. Maybe the new stuff in the next build will help. Thank you for your comments.

The best way to deal with her is explosives. Missiles and grenades will strip her armour so that your assault rifles can do damage. The heavy’s gun can also remove her armour (15% chance). The sniper can ignore her armour. Disable her legs, she can’t chase. Disable her arms, she can’t attack.

Also jet jump the heavy in high position and shoot her: his armor breaking projectiles are really useful and her huge size makes it near impossibile to miss a bullet.

I figured as much. I was only interested in potential features and i would like to catch up with all discussed content. Saves me the trouble of asking already answered questions.
