Patch: Nerf on Assault rifle ?!

Lower burst doesn’t look like a good idea, try the reverse would be more interesting, I don’t see anybody complaining against the 40 damages shotgun, 8 bullets, 10 bullets, so 7 bullets.

There’s not the same risk involved.

Actually, 3 round burst is quite good, because it does same amount of damage as 6 round burst. Its even better with 2 rounds, which now actually penetrate armor well even in late game. (but of course, against Scylla, its still nowhere near effective, as you have to chew through 60 armor and 500+ hitpoints to disable some part. it just make Assault Rifles more relevant at middle ranges, where they tend to hit the target.

Plus, double damage actually would make sense - Assault Rifle deals a lot more damage than Pistol, or PDW in real life. Kinetic energy wise, 5.56mm round deals 1300-2000J of energy where 9mm pistol is around 350-500J.

You mean shotgun is closer so the AR 7 burst is too close Burst to shotgun? I’d say that try 6 AR with non PP AR.

The game is missing of weapons attributes to make weapons distinctive.

I understood it you was looking at damages and armor problems. My point is number of bullets, for example with Armor Break, or with Biochemist, or with increase chance to hit twice a worm.

With 3 Burst you’ll end with PWD and AR the same, it looks pointless. With 6 Burst there’s still the PWD lead of more shot, AR tend have longer range I think, and pure damages aspect will be similar.

At some point it’s probably the balistic system that should be targeted, it is the same for all weapons and then remove possibilities like AOE.

AR looks more like SMG, a forced cone attack forcing spreading of 8 bullets should be less RNG efficient than a shotgun spreading because of aiming imprecision. But it looks impossible to mix with the aiming gameplay.

Bullets going though enemies with generate plenty realism complain. A mini RB requesting select two different targets looks too cumbersome and eventually hard to balance. Range is mostly ignored by all players despite it’s currently the point of AR versus shotgun. 3 bullets is already the PWD choice. 2 bullets with be hard to balance in my opinion. Small burst/Large Bust modes for one weapon isn’t an approach of the game.

Deimos on an infiltrator (with x2 damage) is a killer in end game. Still you don’t one shot. Keeping the same potential damage by doubling damage but halving bursts seems good. But it means that you have only 2 shots on some weapons and can get unlucky.

This 2 shots look rather weird but it’s not modern real weapons. The unlucky aspect isn’t pure, with better aiming it is cancelled, and currently better range and then aiming than Shotgun is the point of AR. But I agree it could be a track. I regret it makes even more pointless effects per bullets.

EDIT: No more AR to manage worms.

I bash them anyway. It’s less costly (ammo + AP).

I think that would be a step in right direction, making Assault Rifles something in between Sniper Rifles and PDW.

Is there a suggestion like that in User Feedback Tool?

For me bash with an AR doesn’t kill a worm only SR/Cannon/GLauncher.

Bash is a way, not always the best.

If you have at least 20 strength, it should.
Formula is:
“Equipment weight” x “strength”

How does PDW deal with 20 or 30 armour again?

AR accuracy should be bumped up if you reduce the burst size.

It should be actually pretty easy to mod weapon values like this…

What game are you playing where late game enemies have 20 armor?
Even on hard Late game enemies (except the Siren and certain areas of certain enemies) have 30-40 armor. All the Tritons are 30-20 armor everywhere or at least at midrange with an AR it is impossible to hit the low armor areas which are still ridiculously armored.

Thanks for the detail, I’ll investigate why I have the problem.

I’m so much in minority that it’s pointless to argue. Still do it because I don’t see what I do wrong to not feel AR that bad. And ok for the beauty or pure arguing.

First points why so much complain on AR when in my opinion many weapons have much less use case:

  • Flamethrower.
  • Close Range.
  • Virus AR and SR.
  • First two PWD.
  • Pistols (at least they don’t have more use cases).

I have huge doubt that it’s better ignore armor and shoot blindly, instead of bothering with armor and then shoot.

  • Armor Break.
  • Grenades and Grenade Launcher.
  • Weak Spot.
  • Armor Shredding.
  • Acid worth a deeper check since last patch.
  • And I don’t mention the various Combo around Armor Break including AR+Armor Break at some range.

For PWD arguing I’ll copy paste from another post, sorry but it’s very pertinent in this thread:

At end I don’t understand all the fuss around AR, I’m so much in minority that there need to be a big cause, I don’t see it.

EDIT: Or psychological, AR wasn’t looking as a dominant weapon type and for sure they wasn’t, and one AR get nerfed, ok but one quite powerful.

You know what Zzzz, I agree with you :astonished:

I think I’m getting close to the endgame of my first run now, and I’m still finding the AR to be a pretty utilitarian weapon, despite the huge armour boosts to the crabbies.

In the right hands, it has very good accuracy, so it can pinpoint targets much better than many other weapons (which is invaluable in this game), and its ‘range for AP cost’ is outstanding.

Currently doing a Lair Crawl, where my 2 AR-armed Assaults have so far taken out 2 Screamer Sentinels, a Siren and a Crabbie. Admittedly, they both carry Iconoclasts for close-up work - and they’re backing up a Heavy, with 3 Snipers on the back line, but the overall point remains valid: they’re holding their own with standard Auto-Rifles (one Synedrion Laser Rifle and one NJ Defender-or-whatever-it’s-called).

The worst part of the AR nerf is that now the Piranha lost its edge over the gauss rifle. What is the point if it basically has no difference in damage from its predecessor 99% of the time. If the enemy has 10 armor there is no difference in damage, if the enemy has 20 armor there’s no difference in damage, but on the rare occasion you find an enemy without armor it’s a liability. Better off using armor shred with a Hephaestus. They tried to create balance really they just made it pointless to ever use assault rifles after early game. I guess if everything sucks then that is technically balanced.

40 damage vs 40 damage and 10 AP. How is there no difference in damage vs 10 or 20 armour? The damage is still higher (by 10 damage per hit).
Also Piranha rifle now has better scaling with damage % perks.
