I’m considering uploading a mod on Nexus which will make some adjustments to game to make it a lot easier in Rookie difficulty. It might take me few days to put it all together, but I think i can create simple json file that will slow down pandoran evolution, give player some boost in stats, etc to make game easier to start on Rookie.
I don’t know if this is moddable right now, but in my opinion the game should guarantee at least one of each faction’s havens both near the player’s first base as well as near the first mist patch, on easy difficulty.
Also, this one I know is not moddable, but one of the most common loading tips should be:
“You should get a 2nd aircraft with a 2nd team as soon as possible to improve exploration and find more resources”.
cool…I’d give it a shot.
programming is one of the skillsets I don’t have…wish I did though, I am sure I could made some cool mods at least someone would appreciate hahaha
Will this also slow down their activities, their mist spreading around the globe?
Because I think the general pace of the game in terms of the spreading of the mist, combined with the sheer amount on missions up from a certain point will hardly stress all new or inexperienced players.
On easy this should be slowed down massively.
I recently started a new campaign on Rooky just to test what happens there.
Yes, the Player gets fancy toys right from the start (Mercy ftw.), 6 soldiers and a good amount resources.
But the mist spreads not much different to Hero or Veteran, on mid January the second mist zone has already completely overgrown one PP base half around the globe. No problem at all for me, but for any new or not that experienced player this would for sure be not really funny and only frustrating.
There is a problem with what you are suggesting re reducing Pandoran evolution on Rookie - it can actually make the game much harder because you need to capture a live Scylla to get most of the endings.
This was the case with Cthulhu - if you look on the forum you will see how some casual players couldn’t beat the Doomsday Clock waiting for the Scylla to appear.
I might be wrong, but my impression is that the one thing that most players who are finding the game too difficult share is that they only have 1 team for most of the game.
With only 1 team, Rookie can be very hard. Imagine playing any other difficulty level with only 1 team - it would definitely qualify as a challenge run.
i’m actually playtesting these settings and its perfectly possible to slow it down, yet still get citadels appearing as before… they just wont generate as much SDI, therefore certain pandoran mutations are active later, at the same time its possible to increase timeout between haven attacks etc, which would make game progress slower…
If that is possible then it could work
Yes, game pace should be extended with less human population decrease too with these changes.
However I think a game pace change could be applied to the game as a whole, not only for easy mode. It happens too much too fast.
I even want to see those at hero. I just don’t like the enemy rush and the pandoran mist taking everywhere.
It should happen, just not in march… the game could go on to may, june… august… let some time pass without events like in the original x-com. I can’t remember clicking the forward time button EVER.
Unfortunately if we do slow down the game pace, the limited exploration will be a problem. Vote for unlimited exploration on canny!!
You need a Scylla only for PX ending:

about squads and aircrafts I learned time ago that you need 3 of them in March,
2 asap, making easier to get aircrafts is a good idea, as I posted other times
That’s true, but many players don’t understand that. They don’t know what to do, probably haven’t advanced in the diplo rating because they only have one squad so they are not doing enough HDs or destroying Pandoran structures.
… and its sticks the whole time on the left list as a goal to do, next the other things that are not entirely necessary if you not want to do them. I think many players and especially the ones that plays the first time will not understand what is essential to go ahead and what not. As at many other points, the game also lacks on explanations at this point.
It’s lack of explanations and lack of guidance on what to do on the Geoscape. If the game is not meant to be played with a single squad, you have to make sure that the player gets a second squad asap.

If you don’t want to resort to PP Wiki or PhoenixPedia in game
http://phoenix.server317.com/PP_victory
you need on geoscape to explain steps to achieve victory, goal list and some kind of popping panel with clear steps, clicking or hovering over Victory requirements
and in my opinion, only one alliance should be allowed, locking the other two, at that point you get every tech and step required on geoscape for that specific faction ending
That’s a bad argument for not fixing the issue. Just make it so that Scylla is always available to fight if the game requires you to fight it or capture it. This wasn’t a problem in X-com; if the game required you to capture something, it always appeared on the next mission. I think the free-roaming rng world is to blame because the designers clearly don’t know how to design it so that it’s constantly interesting and challenging, like the X-coms.
I have not played PP since the new Legacy update. I was planning on purchasing the DLC and I decided otherwise. My hopes for this game were high, possibly no realistic. The main reason I have not played the game is due to lack of fun. The game is boring. Prior to the new DLC the horizontal weapon and armors tree is pointless. There is not really any weapon that is better than any other. Marginal improvements at best. Why?
I don’t think the game is too difficult, but I can see how others do. The biggest issue the developers have is lack of creativity. what I mean by that is instead of looking at a game issue and creating a creative fix for it, they simply nerf the problem out of existence. This gets rid of the exploit but it limits the game in so many other ways and creates new problems.
What is most upsetting to me is that this game released basically in beta. This happened with the new Avengers game as well. Why? Give credit where credit is due. Snap shot has continued to support this game and continue to try and make improvements. I personally will no longer support any game developer that is going to release a incomplete game and try to “Fix” the game with updates and patches and DLC.

Problem is, that on Legend you are multiplying base values by just 2, which means base values that are used by Easy difficulty are quite high (or not that much lower)…
Does that include Spawn Rates of enemies?

That seems pretty silly. Why not support a company, that strives to make their product better, and listens to the Users?

Great ideas, that I hope you put in Snapshots Suggestions box.
@VOLAND Having a Player Made Pool of Ready Recruits to hire when affordable. Would help immensely in the early game squad builds, and deployment. IMO of course.
