In the new xcom 2 cosmetics are really a big thing in the base game and in the mod scene as well. But in xcom 2 as much as you change the apperance of your character he will be wearing the armour you chose in his loadout and his outfit will inherit its stats.
Now in PP different armour parts will have different stats, and customizing your guys will come by changing this parts, my question is, will different items have the same stats? for example, lets say if I choose a headgear. will a cool red beret have the same stats as a kevlar helmet? not realistics, but ey I like red berets.
That’s quite common in these games. XCOM has different variations for the same armor (helmets are 100% cosmetic though). I’m not sure how much freedom OP expects though.
Are we talking armor variation or “equip a biker jacket and get power armor grade protection”? or just “have different skins for every armor, with different accessories, straps, bags and bits”? the latter is fine, the former is a tad immersion breaking and may be better suited for a mod.
I prefer the different skins too, but in the case of the headgear it’s because I use it to differentiate my guys, the may wear a power armor but “not helmet”, in this case they may wear an ¿invisible skin? because i don’t want them to be shot at the head.
I could see a tiered quality of armor system working similar to mount and blade to justify that fedora you want your sniper wearing being better than that busted tactical helmet your assault is rocking.
