One-in-all it offered much less linear weapon progression, and more reward-and–discover, plus modular vehicles - a great step forward to what do we desire. It would be fair that PP picks it from there, and not from Xcom EU (that Fireaxis rebooted).

I suspect you are correct about Apocalypse systems returning in some form, since this is basically “the apoc he always wanted to make”.
