Tentacle retaliation attack causes slow down

whenever my unit with tentacle torso gets attacked by a nearby enemy, the tentacle retaliation attack animation plays in slow motion, and the turn hangs for about 30 seconds, then proceeds as normal. happens every time, even if attacked twice and so two retaliation attacks are triggered.
