multiple attacks per turn are the thing that makes this game interesting… i would not go the way reducing amount of attacks… on contrary, i would increase them (1AP for Assault Rifle for example) but, at the same time, i would decrease number of bullets in bursts to 3, so you deal less damage (or same amount as before if you spend 2 AP shooting)… because that gives soldiers utility, at the same time, it reduces the power of your attacks (3 round burst is more likely to be inaccurate despite weapon accuracy)
and AI? AI needs to use some predefined tactics how to solve situation - attack with strongest panda first, so it soaks damage, flank and shoot from range with ranged units, swarm and charge single target with melee units, buff the own units as the first thing (sirens)… there are plenty of things that can be done to AI…
I am against to give example with 1/10000 player base. I talk about a playerbase who will just open his games and just play without planning the best combinations and hardest way to win the game. For those reasons, I do not count people who finish those games with ultra challenging mode. Yes, there are many combinations and ways to break balance, but you can’t add to the calculation if they are just few crazy people…
I played those games and I just read what the skills does and used them when I need them. I think most of people does that too… Again it’s about fun factor not the challenge or breaking balance with special tactics.
I mean the skills which buffs your damage or let you attack again and again… Even you got that kind of skills, it should be special for the weapon…
Quickshot for only snipers. It’s because you just push a trigger, just faster… it should not be usable with other weapons… at some point, you can use it with 0 TP fire… not logical… OP…
Boom Blast… range ok maybe even it’s OP and you get a less TP bonus too…
they are just some examples…
Personally, i would rather remove all these abilities like quick shot or boom blast… and instead, reduce AP requirements for those weapons… so Sniper Rifle would always be able to fire 2x per turn, and you would not have to click twice per turn on it… its unnecessary hassle…
Out of topic, but I would like to have 2 special weapon skills.
Aimed Shot: 3 TP sniper shot with %50+ acc. So sniper will be 2 TP default as you said but we will have an improved one with skill. That 2 click is very lame too as you said, It should be just go for the shot when skill pressed.
Rage burst: Machine guns will have 2 or even 1 TP shots like our 1 TP 3 bullet assault rifle ones. So for 1 TP, machinegun will fire 5-8 bullet for example. With rage burst it will be 3 TP for total 8-10 TP worth burst shot. Not a clone but with big acc penalty. It won’t able to use with non burst weapons like cannons, snipers, pistols…
Other weapons can get their cool skills… but as I said skills should be locked to weapons or weapon types and there will be no damage buffs.
You started the comparison to FXCom and not me, I only showed that it is not true what you mentioned about the skills there. But lets simply stop these useless comparisons on that level, it mostly leads to nothing else than also useless arguing, OK?
On the other side, your suggestions are almost not bad. Maybe it is not the direction that I would go (overall lesser AP for weapon usage), but generally it looks well thought out and balanced. So just keep going, I’m definitely interesting to see more.
Most of the ideas could be not imagine fully when you did not play it by yourself. Experience could change your idea even 180 degree. It’s nice to be almost not bad :P…
You can’t imagine how 1 Tp with 3 bullet for AR changed the gameplay for both you and enemy. Same with pistols which fires 3 bullet per 1 TP just for less damage… now you can really use pistols when you needed with snipers… I want to try this at MG’s but it ruins rage burst… for that reason I wanted to have a rage burst at low level, weaker and MG special skill.
To be honest, I would like to have a special firing system for burst weapons like you just tell the game how much TP you want to use and game fires it for you with some differences… maybe more bullets but less acc… same system for snipers for +acc per TP you use… This would rise the firing mechanic to another level…
I mentioned that elsewhere, a system like in the old ufo/xcom with different fire modes would be THE highlight for me. Quick shot with acc penalty for 1 AP, aimed shot for 2 AP, burst shot for 3 AP would also be nice for ARs in PP, you only have to increase the bullet damage for the single shots and then go for it.
