Chronicles of Phoenix Point and the Disciples of Anu

Mmmmh. Thanks to you, I might go “Full Anu” in my next campaign : it seems to greatly reduce the weight of alpha-strike and give much flavour to the game…

So, I’ve not had time for a new campaign (On-line teaching of 10 year olds is not easy!!). I went back to this one last night and played a bit. While it’s difficult to remember what each team was doing and such, I did manage my first base defense and wanted to mention it here.

I had my typical 4 operatives in the base: assault/berserk (5), sniper/priest (7), assault/priest (6), berserk/heavy (6).

Three of them started in the chamber with all the Pandorans! We ran. We ran as fast as we could. Luckily everyone made it behind corners and such, so no siren takeovers. Our fourth, the sniper, was way back in the base and had to run like crazy to even begin to get to the action. Turn two saw us run more, trying to get well back from the entrance.

Usually, I just line everybody up, covering the entrance way, and gun down any Pandorans that attempt to come through. Rinse and repeat for every base defense I’ve had. This one was actually interesting and challenging because while I was running around, 3 tritons with sniper rifles came scurrying through and off to one side. That left me in position to deal with some arthrons that tried to come through as well as 3 sirens.

-open up on arthrons with sniper (quick aim) kills one
-everyone else now in overwatch on the entrance way
-next 3 or 4 turns…kill the stuff coming through, as usual
-3rd siren controlled one and tried to hide; we survived the level 6 assault being controlled, then said siren came out again and the 3 remaining managed to gun it down

Eventually it was time to hunt those 3 tritons. They had disappeared into the base and never came at me. Found a couple way back, on my same level, and dealt with them. But by now, the 3rd one started opening up on my satellite array, way up inside the far back corner of my base. It was a mad dash to get to it before it destroyed the equipment. Just squeaked the two assaults near it with shotgun blasts in time.

It was much more interesting and challenging having to track them down inside the base, wondering if something was on overwatch around the next corner. Likewise when it was a siren. I knew never to end adj. to one because if it didn’t die, I’d take two of those vicious blade attacks.

So an very enjoyable battle. Not easy with only 4, but possible. It would be interesting if the odd Pandoran somehow got in behind or in other rooms from the start.
