Let's fix... weapons balance!

That’s not how semi-decent wego works. Cf Combat Mission, AI reacts to new threats and can be overridden by player but not always successfully.

It does underperform compared to other weapons at close range, but is performs well enough for it not to be a serious problem. Compare that to a shotgun, that is absolutely useless as mid-long range, or AR that is well, quite useless currently as soon as armor appears, but hopefully in the next patch it will be balanced to be a valuable weapon at mid range.

This is the issue, not that SR is the best in any situation, it’s just best for some things and quite good at the rest, unlike other weapon types that have more specific roles.

The problem is the AI has to do decisions for players, take a much longer path is AI, have soldier stop and wait the next 4s would be AI too but no dev ever prog that. It’s the same for all case causing problems, but for AOE it seems you are right, it’s not a point.

Wego doesn’t allow player control during a turn, if Combat Mission allow it this is rather rare and a bit bizarre, not anymore wego if you ask me.

I meant you can give them a specific target between 30s intervals but since we’re working on company / battalion level, even that is extremely rapid reaction time indeed. The game of course models command lag etc.

Combat mission 2 is not necessarily the better game due to some questionable design decisions and the devs being blanketed by a small but fanatical fan group who refuse to see glaring design problems. Anyways, much larger scale, not quite applicable.

That’s what you do when you work on pauseable real-time and to lesser extent wego. You stop being micromanaging puppet master and start behaving more like a controller, with far too good overview and capability to micro of course, but still.

Yes, with bad AI it falls apart and the After-series didn’t have any AI at all, forcing you to assign a new target to individual soldiers every time they took something down. Real time playing like turn-based, ugh.

Very special system, it’s not classic wego. But the real time aspect make me tedious. I know I tried it a little bit, stopped before play 3 turns. I think it was a demo.
